Van Der Sloot Lawyer Quits After Death Threats

'This isn't for me,' says Peruvian attorney

(Newser) – Joran Van der Sloot's lawyer is dropping the highly charged case because he was targeted by death threats. "I've received threats, many threatening e-mails. I'm an older person. This isn't for me," Maximo Altez, 54, told AP. Altez will continue representing Van der Sloot only until the accused murderer's family members arrive in Peru within the next few days.

People need to ease up. As much as it sucks, he needs a lawyer to go to trial and get this over with. He's admitted his guilt already, leave the public defender alone. If the trial gets going and lawyers keep dropping out, it will just delay things.
