Inquest Sees Pics of Dying Diana

Posted Oct 11, 07 1:29 PM CDT in Arts & Living World

(Newser) – As one attorney blasted paparazzi for having "no compunction about taking photos of the victims," police showed an inquest jury those same images of Princess Diana as she lay dying inside her crumpled car. The coroner ruled that the photos, many of them close-ups of the wounded princess, would not be released to the public, the BBC reports.

One photo shows photographer Romuald Rat squatting down over the Mercedes' open door; and the jury was told that paparazzi cameras apparently came out before anyone offered to help. Jurors were also shown mugshots of paparazzi, and heard testimony from witnesses who said the Mercedes' driver was clearly being impeded in the tunnel by pursuing motorcyclists.
