Schuerholz Will Leave Post As Braves' GM

Posted Oct 11, 07 5:21 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Atlanta Braves' General Manager John Schuerholz is moving up to become president of the franchise, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. He will be succeeded by assistant GM Frank Wren, Braves' CEO Tim McGuirk announced today. Schuerholz was the architect of teams that won 14 straight division titles and the Braves only World Series title in the last 50 years, in 1995.

"John will be my right hand man for many years to come," said McGuirk, likening the changes to shuffling a baseball roster in order to make it stronger. Schuerholz, 67, has been a GM for 26 seasons, and said he was ready to step aside and leave the "tiring" job to Wren who reports he "just can't say how thrilled [he is]."
