You have to love fiscal conservatives like JD Hayworth—you know, the kind who go on TV at 2am to tell you about the billions of dollars the federal government is just dying to give away. In 2007, soon after losing his House seat, Hayworth starred in an infomercial for the National Grants Conferences, which promised to give people information on how to get “FREE MONEY” from government grants, Talking Points Memo reports.

“Well I don't want to shock anybody's sensibilities, but I have to use a four-letter word: Real. This is real,” says Hayworth, who is challenging John McCain in Arizona's Republican primary. “It’s really your money. You surrendered it in the form of taxation.” The company gets an F from the Better Business Bureau. Asked how the commercial fits into Hayworth’s fiscal platform, a spokesman said, “Cutting back on federal spending and educating people about what the federal government can do are two totally different things.” (More JD Hayworth stories.)
