(Newser) – Actress Amy Locane, better known as Sandy from the original Melrose Place, has been charged with vehicular homicide, New Jersey police tell the Star-Ledger. The actress, whose married name is Locane-Bovenizer, allegedly struck another vehicle last night, killing the passenger and seriously injuring the driver. The actress is also accused of an earlier hit-and-run accident that caused no injuries.

The driver from the first crash attempted to call police, but Locane-Bovenizer drove away. He told police she was "swerving and knocking down several mailboxes." Locane-Bovenizer said she had drunk several glasses of wine, according to the police report. She faces 5 to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Amy Locane arrives at the Gen-Art Fall 2005 LA Fashion Week Kick Off Party on March 14, 2005, at the MOCA Geffen Contemporary Museum in Los Angeles.

5-10 years? My guess she won't even get that much - she'll cop a plea deal + get time off for good behavior and be out in 2-3 years. It's way past time to change the laws. And this involuntary manslaughter crap? I don't believe it. She voluntarily got drunk, got in her car, and broke the law. Unless you can prove she did the entire thing under duress (with a gun to her head), I don't believe anything about it was involuntary. Oh wait, I forgot - this is good ole America, where no one takes responsibility for anything - they simply point fingers at the next guy.

HEY FOLKS ---- WAKE UP --- Don't f*ck up your life and others by driving drunk......The price of a cab ride is a hell of a lot cheaper than the potential cost of driving drunk..
