Conservatives may be pleased with the Supreme Court’s recent gun rights ruling, but Democrats are the big winners politically. Lots of Democratic incumbents hail from gun-loving districts, and now they’ve got one less wedge issue to deal with, Politico reasons. “It pretty much took that off the table,” says one Democratic aide. “It’s harder to throw that claim out: if Democrats are in charge they’re going to come get your guns.”

Indeed, Democrats were quick to endorse the ruling, with Harry Reid calling the right to bear arms “one of the essential freedoms on which our country was founded.” Ohio Rep. Zack Space likewise sent out a message saying the Court had ruled “on the side of every Constitution-loving American.” One Democratic pollster called it a “win, win, win, win,” saying it would give conservative Democrats an opportunity to tout their conservative bona fides.
