The hunt is on for the men involved in the shooting of two Tampa policemen during a traffic stop early this morning. Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis were shot in the head, the St. Petersburg Times reports, after pulling over a car for a missing tag about 2:15 am. They discovered an outstanding warrant for the car’s passenger for writing a bad check in Jacksonville, and called for backup. But by the time it arrived, both were dead.

Now, there’s a massive manhunt on, complete with undercover officers, K-9 units, and helicopters, the Tampa Tribune reports. Police think they’ve found the suspects’ vehicle at an apartment complex, and are checking every car leaving that complex with guns drawn. They’ve named two persons of interest in the case, and intend to place information about them on 10 billboards across three cities. “The perimeter is tightening around” the shooter, says the police chief. “His best bet is to give himself up.” (More Tampa stories.)
