US Coast Guard terminates 2 unsafe voyages in NYC

(User Submitted) – NY: USCG boarding teams ended 2 voyages early 7/4 due to unsafe operations on both vessels. 1st, USCG received notice of a 42' boat behaving erratically, with 32 ppl aboard. CG Sta-Sandy Hook sent a response boat to conduct a boarding. The USCG team discovered that the driver lacked proper papers and boat was overloaded. USCG terminated the voyage based on these facts. The response crew escorted the boat to its point of origin. 2nd, CG Sta-NY was notified of a catamaran bumping into pilings in the area. It was possible that the operator may have been drinking. 2 25' USCG boats to responded. The vessel was intercepted by USCG near Liberty Landing, and escorted in. Though the passengers seemed intoxicated, the driver was both compliant and sober. He was cited and released. Read the full article.
