The horrible news is owners of an upstate New York auto shop found a mangled puppy in the back of a client's van. The good news is the pup has been patched up and the couple is adopting the tail-wagging hound. The malnourished 8-month-old pit bull, Rockford, was discovered huddled in the van with a shriveled tongue and his jaw hanging by just tissue and skin, the bone snapped. Shop manager Rachel Dean said she started to cry when she saw how badly the dog was hurt, reports the Syracuse Post-Standard.

She confiscated the pup and whisked him to an animal clinic, where a vet found evidence of even more abuse, including untreated broken bones. "I don't know how a human could do this," the pup's new "dad" tells ABC News. SPCA officials are investigating. Click here to read more on animal abuse.
