Craig to Appeal Guilty Plea

Posted Oct 15, 07 8:54 AM CDT in US Politics

(Newser) – Larry Craig will today appeal a Minnesota judge's ruling that he can't withdraw his guilty plea for disorderly conduct, the AP reports. And he won't resign: “It is my right to do what I’m doing,” Craig told KTVB-TV yesterday. "I'm not running for re-election. I'm no longer in the way. I am pursuing my constitutional rights."  Craig and his wife also discussed the arrest in an interview with Matt Lauer to be broadcast tomorrow.

In the Lauer interview, Suzanne Craig said she didn't know about the arrest until just before it hit the media. "I felt like the floor was falling out from under me," she said. “I should have told my wife, Craig acknowledged. "And most importantly, I should have told counsel.” Of his falling out with presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Craig said, "He not only threw me under his campaign bus, he backed up and ran over me again."
