(Newser) – A quick-thinking off-duty cop saved a California toddler from death after watching the girl's dad shake her violently, then hurl her into the path of an oncoming car, said law enforcement authorities. The 18-month-old girl was hit by the car but suffered only burns from the engine when the Oakland police officer pulled her out from beneath the vehicle. The cop then commandeered a passing car to chase the fleeing father. The two men struggled until the dad was subdued with a stun gun. He was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest, battery on a police officer and child endangerment, reports the San Francicso Chronicle.
