George Steinbrenner died of a massive heart attack this morning in Tampa. Emergency crews responded to a call at his home last night, and took him to the hospital, ESPN reports. The legendary Yankees owner had just celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4th.

Steinbrenner has been in poor health for a while, but last week told the AP that he was "feeling good." He has owned the Yankees since 1973, winning 11 AL pennants and seven World Series titles over that span. He gave day-to-day control of the team to his sons Hank and Hal in 2007.
