KENNEBUNK, Maine — Former President George H.W. Bush's fishing boat, Fidelity IV, ended up aground on a beach near his Maine home in thick fog on Monday, 7/12. At low tide, the Fidelity IV became a magnet for tourists as it sat stranded on Gooch's Beach. Hours later as the tide flooded, the boat was returned to its dock in Kennebunkport by Mr Bush's staff. According to Bush spokesman Jim Appleby, the boat ran aground between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. with the former president and some family members aboard. No injuries resulted. Appleby says the boat was close to shore in the fog when a wave pushed his boat onto the beach. As water ebbed at low tide, a number of tourists snapped pictures of the 38-foot boat.
