'Nothing Obama does will ever make you f---ing happy'

(Newser) – Jon Stewart has a question for right-wing pundits outraged over President Obama's appearance on The View: "Do you idiots have any short-term memory at all?" If The View is somehow beneath the office of president, Stewart asked last night on the Daily Show, how about George and Laura Bush's 2004 chat with Dr. Phil about spanking their daughters? And it sure sounded like the allegedly "undignified Springer-esque" ladies of The View were asking serious questions about issues.

The bottom line for right-wing media, Stewart said, is "nothing Obama does will ever make you f---ing happy." If the president had spent the time with the Boy Scouts instead, as critics say he should have, those same critics would be comparing him to Hitler for choosing to "stand in a field rallying his adoring uniformed youth."

Holy crap. It's obvious that, if you think the Daily Show isn't comedy, you are taking yourself far too seriously. When commentators on Fox News mislead and fabricate, that is not comedy. When Olbermann swings wildly for the fences, that is not comedy. Comedy Central has no news program. Does Stewart have an agenda? Yes, his agenda is to entertain. He is irreverent, profane, sarcastic...and the people who love him are also irreverent, profane, and sarcastic. If you believe he promotes a liberal agenda because he features a boatload of comedy about Republicans, think about this: from my point of view he does that because, in general, Republicans are sanctimonious bloviators who really do provide a lot of material for somebody like Stewart. You're not paying attention during the segments when he jumps in the Democrats' lunch for the same reason. Newser may carry stories about the Daily Show just because it makes some people make outrageous comments, I don't know. But it does, and they do, and you know who you are.

Maybe he didn't go to the BSA rally because the organization is currently involved in a lesser version of a molestation scandal similar to the Catholic church... - I'd prefer The View to another 'fireside chat' where everything is interrupted for political spin.
