An escaped Indiana inmate convicted of murdering her husband has been arrested after living 35 years in Tennessee, where she remarried and raised a family. The 64-year-old woman escaped while serving a life sentence in 1972. She was living with her third husband and two of her seven children when she was arrested last week.
Neighbors and authorities agreed that Linda Darby lived an uneventful, law-abiding life in Tennessee, where she cleaned houses to help support her family. "She was real nice," said a neighbor. Darby insists she's innocent. "I'm not a murderer," she told a local TV station. "I don't know how they ever convicted me." She's awaiting extradition to Indiana.
