To a man like Wayne Burwell, a 34 year old track star and personal trainer, a diagnosis of a debilitating medical condition probably seemed horrifying. However, in the town of Wilder, VT, he was soon to find out that his condition would make living there much worse than it had to be. Due to ta condition that was causing Burwell's glucose levels to crash, he was rendered unconscious while using his restroom, where a housekeeper mistook him for a burglar and notified the authorities. When the police officers arrived on the scene, Burwell was handcuffed and pepper sprayed before being questioned. His neighbors, who tried to tell the arresting officers that Burwell was indeed the homeowner, were threatened with arrest for interfering with police business. The ACLU is investigating.
