The shooter who yesterday killed eight at the Manchester, Conn., beer distributor where he worked telephoned his mother right before taking his own life, telling her, "I killed the five racists that was there bothering me," according to his uncle. Omar Thornton, who was black, had apparently told family members that he had been subjected to racist remarks and incidents at his workplace, presumably because he was the was the only African American "in that area."

Thornton mentioned seeing hanging nooses in the bathroom, and reportedly brought these allegations to the attention of union officials, but "it was not dealt with appropriately,” added his uncle. Union officials, however, dismiss the allegations, stating, “This is nothing but a guy who flipped out.” Read the full article at WFSB. (More Omar Thornton stories.)
