Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reportedly survived an assassination attempt today, when a homemade grenade was lobbed at his motorcade. The attack was originally reported on an Iranian website and a Dubai TV station, and finally confirmed by a Reuters source, who said that several were injured in the blast, and that one person had been arrested. The explosive missed Ahmadinejad’s car, instead hitting one carrying his staff and several journalists.

But Iran’s state-run Press TV denies the attack ever took place. “Some foreign news sources published reports that a grenade exploded near the motorcade,” the station said, but quoted an “informed source” as saying that no such attack had occurred. If there was an attack, it didn’t stop the Iranian president from reaching his destination in Hamadan, and delivering his speech as planned. He didn’t mention any attack. (More Iran stories.)
