(Newser) – One way to make your marriage last: Let your hubby cheat. That’s mistress-for-hire (and now author) Holly Hill’s theory, at least. The Sugarbabe author says “it's better to walk the dog on a leash than let it escape through an unseen hole in the back fence,” but that idea only appeals to “the sort of person who views your spouse as an easily trained pet,” writes Mary Elizabeth Williams on Salon. “How much more of this ‘Wanna keep your man? Let him stray’ tripe are we supposed to swallow?”

The part that rankles the most is that Hill considers monogamous men to be heroes. “There you have it: A man and a woman can take the same vow, but the guy who keeps it is a hero.” Even worse, Hill thinks women should cheat, too…but just to make their husbands jealous. “That's right; bonking some other dude isn't about getting your own ya-yas out, it's just about making yourself more desirable to your main man. Excuse me, I have to go claw my face off now.”

Letting your man cheat? Not as good an idea as it, er, apparently sounds to some.

Being in love isn't like walking a dog on leash. It's crazy. It's irrational. Sometimes it even works. Honesty is a fine start. Acknowledging that a healthy relationship is more than a woman doing whatever she can to hang on to her man is an even better one.

This is not really about sex, it's about book promotion. It's not about 'open marriage', it's about getting on Good Morning, America so the hosts can wrinkle their brow and look concerned,

No, being locked in to a loveless marriage and ruining your kids' lives, that's the ticket! Why even get married at all?
