American Airlines says seven puppies died after being put on a jet from Tulsa to Chicago. The airline says it contacted the shipper who put the puppies on the morning flight yesterday and is investigating further. The shipper put 14 puppies aboard Flight 851 scheduled to leave Tulsa at 6:30am. It was delayed an hour by weather conditions in Chicago.

An airlines spokeswoman says baggage handlers taking the puppies to a kennel area at O'Hare grew concerned because they looked lethargic. Workers tried to cool them down and eventually brought them to a vet's office. Five of the pups died initially and two later. (More American Airlines stories.)
