School Used Me as 'Rape Bait': Girl

A high school student who says she was raped on school grounds claims she was raped a second time—after her disbelieving principal used her as “bait” to catch the boy involved. On Feb. 4, 2008, the alleged victim told her teacher about the first rape, and claimed the boy had also raped another girl. The teacher told administrators and offered to make sure the girls got on their school bus safely, but the principal instead came up with a “sting operation,” the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

According to court documents, the principal thought if he forced the girl to remain on campus, he could catch students having consensual sex. School police following the alleged victim and others lost track of them when they were believed to have gone home—and that’s when the girl claims she and another student were raped. The school district has filed to have her lawsuit thrown out, but her attorneys filed a response against that request last month. The boy, meanwhile, has pleaded guilty to sexual assault in juvenile court.
