On August 11, 2010, the White House Press Secretary issued a statement from President Obama asserting that "Islam has always been part of America" and extending his "best wishes to the 1.5 billion Muslims around the world" as Ramandan begins. HIs further claim that "American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country" will undoubtedly extend the discussion of his religious roots--and question his knowledge of American history.
