With the tea party shaping into a political force, FreedomWorks honchos Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe take it upon themselves to write a “manifesto” for the movement in today’s Wall Street Journal. It contains some fighting words. “Let’s be clear about one thing,” they write. “The tea party movement is not seeking a junior partnership with the Republican Party, but a hostile takeover of it.”

Beyond that, the pair offer a general indictment of liberal ideology, calling government “by definition … the means by which citizens are forced to do that which they would not do voluntarily. Like pay high taxes … or purchase a government-defined health-insurance plan.” They urge the like-minded to vote for the “young legislative entrepreneurs” who’ve signed up on their “Contract From America” site. They also seem to employ some revisionist history, tracing the movement back to Rick Santelli’s CNBC rant last year. Apparently this didn’t count? (More Dick Armey stories.)
