(NEWSER) - The Secret Service is investigating an online image of Arizona men showing off an Obama T-shirt full of bullet holes, it said yesterday. The seven young men in the picture are holding guns as one displays a T-shirt bearing President Obama's face and the word "hope." The image appeared on an Arizona police officer's Facebook page last week; the picture was taken down yesterday, the New York Times reports. Actor will serve as nation's ambassador at large

(NEWSER) - "Diplomacy" doesn't even make the list of the top million things associated with Sean Penn, but Haiti has gone ahead and named the actor its ambassador at large anyway. Penn, who has long labored for Haitian relief in the wake of the devastating 2010 earthquake, was offered the job at an A-list fundraiser over the weekend by Haiti's foreign minister, reports the New York Post . “I do accept,” Penn said, adding it would be refreshing to “change being called 'hey, you (bleep)', to 'hey, Mr. Ambassador!'” More»

But some see 'progress' amid the 'distress'

(NEWSER) - The wires are awash with two-year anniversary stories about Haiti's earthquake, which pretty much run the optimism gamut from the Washington Post (Headline: "Two years after quake, signs of progress in Haiti") to the Wall Street Journal ("Two Years After Quake, Haiti Remains in Distress").

• Journal: It sees "donor fatigue" settling in and resentment rising against the government of former pop star Michel Martelly. Political infighting has held up reconstruction projects, and the US, along with charities and NGOs, are running out of patience. Nathan Shafer says post wasn't serious

(NEWSER) - A South Carolina man has been arrested after he threatened to kill Gov. Nikki Haley on Facebook. Nathan Shafer, angered by the recent arrest of 19 Occupy Columbia protesters, commented on Haley’s Facebook post about the arrests, in which she said she “appreciate(s) freedom of speech,” KLTV reports. “I hope someone murders you before I do,” Shafer said he wrote. “How’s that for free speech?” More»

Caller left two voicemails

(AP) - The FBI says a Tennessee man has been charged with threatening the family of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. Agents arrested 62-year-old Glendon Swift of Lenoir City yesterday. He is accused of leaving two voicemail messages at Cantor's office in suburban Richmond, Va., on the evening of Oct. 27. In the profanity-laced messages, the caller uses an anti-Semitic slur, vows to destroy Cantor, and makes specific threats against his daughter and wife. More»
