With new coach Don Waddell behind the bench, the desperate Thrashers were able to get their first win of the season. They ran the power play well, scored on a 5-3 advantage, and scored while shorthanded on the way to a 5-3 victory over the hated Rangers, who swept them out of the playoffs last year.

The only negative for the Thrashers was the loss of goalie Kari Lehtonen to a possibly serious groin injury. He'll get an MRI in the coming days. That aside, it was a rousing victory for a team on the rebound. "It's a new season for us; we're starting from scratch," said Pascal Dupuis. (More New York Rangers stories.)
