(User Submitted) – A local television station in Sacramento, California will be the first-ever in the United States to air a paid commercial advertisement for a medical marijuana dispensary.

The group "CannaCare" paid KTXL, Sacramento's FOX affiliate, to produce and air a thirty-second advertisement promoting the use of cannabis to relieve certain medical conditions, including HIV, Hepatitis C and back pain.

The ad features various patients of CannaCare giving testimonials as to how pot use helped ease pain associated with certain conditions. The advertisement does not mention the word "marijuana," and the actual substance is not shown.

The station's general manager and news director seemed supportive of the ad, but says the station itself does not promote pot use. Read the full article.

Medical marijuana ads on TV will invite more abuse. Journey Healing Centers (drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers in Arizona and Utah) is concerned over increased addiction and medical marijuana abuse (which is out of control in Los Angeles where there are more dispensaries than Starbucks). Based on 30+ years of experience working with clients fighting addictions, Journey Healing Centers’ licensed doctors and therapists oppose the Medical Marijuana Propositions on the Arizona (Prop 203), Oregon and South Dakota ballots, along with California’s Prop 19 legalization for 21+ on the November ballot.
