Man Burns Himself Badly ... Trying to Kill Spider

(User Submitted) – A British man ended up in the hospital yesterday after burning himself quite severely while ... trying to kill a spider. He was called into the bathroom after his wife saw the spider crawl behind the toilet. Not being able to reach it, he decided to use an aerosol spray to kill it, but was unable to see whether the deed had been done because the bathroom's light bulb was burnt out. So he flicked on a cigarette lighter to try and spot it—and an "almighty explosion" ensued, causing him to suffer burns to his face and limbs. Firefighters found no sign of the spider. (NEWSER) - Today's Horrible Way to Die : A 56-year-old man was buried yesterday under 20 feet of pinto beans at the warehouse where he had worked for more than 12 years. For an hour, dozens of rescue workers "moved several tons of beans to get to him," says an official, but Raymond Segura Jr was ultimately found dead at the Colorado Kelley Bean Company facility. (NEWSER) - A Japanese researcher who specializes in spider silk has used 300 plucky golden orb web spiders to weave silk threads he could turn into violin strings, reports the BBC . Shigeyoshi Osaki used up to 5,000 silk threads to produce each string, twisting them together tightly in a "unique packing structure" to produce strings with "a soft and profound timbre." More»
