Tea Party Senate Candidate Opposes Masturbation

'Lust is adultery,' says Delaware's Christine O'Donnell

(Newser) – Now that's abstinence. Delaware Tea Party Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell is opposed to masturbation because the Bible says "lusting in your heart" is the same as committing adultery and, as O'Donnell so correctly pointed out in a past MTV interview, "you can't masturbate without lust." During a 2007 debate on sexuality on Fox News, when former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders complained that "we have a sexually unhealthy society," O'Donnell snapped: "That's wonderful. It's called modesty."

Jezebel calls O'Donnell a "wackjob," but also points out that dark horse Tea Party candidates can turn out to be stunningly powerful as witnessed in Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski's defeat by Tea Party challenger Joe Miller this week. Now nervous Delaware Republicans are viciously attacking O'Donnell, with state party chairman Tom Ross claiming she "couldn't be elected dog catcher." Dems, convinced they could easily beat O'Donnell, are rooting for her to trounce GOP challenger Rep. Mike Castle in the Senate primary this month.

(NEWSER) - House Speaker John Boehner has warned Democrats to agree to at least $2 trillion in budget cuts or GOP legislators won't back measures to raise the federal debt ceiling, he told a rapt crowd of Wall Streeters and political leaders yesterday. He also insisted that Medicare is still on the table—yet any tax increase is out, reports the Washington Post . “Without significant spending cuts and changes in the way we spend the American people’s money, there will be no increase in the debt limit," Boehner said in a speech before the Economic Club in Manhattan. “We’re not talking about billions here. We should be talking about cuts in trillions if we’re serious about addressing America’s fiscal problems.” More»

O'Donnell: Establishment Is Out to Get Me

(NEWSER) - Erstwhile Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell blasted reports of a federal investigation into alleged campaign finance fraud as an "establishment trick." We’ve "been warned by multiple high-ranking Democrat insiders that the Delaware Democrat and Republican political establishment is jointly planning to pull out all the stops to ensure I would never again upset the apple cart," said O'Donnell in a statement. The plan is "to crush me with false accusations so that my political reputation would become so toxic no one would ever get behind me. This is simply an establishment trick to stop the anti-establishment Tea Party movement in its tracks." More»

Miller Won't Block Murkowski Certification, But ...

He also isn't giving up without a (longer) fight

(NEWSER) - Joe Miller won't block Lisa Murkowski's Senate certification, he announced last night … but that doesn't mean he's giving up. Miller also said that he will continue to pursue his legal challenge of Murkowski's write-in victory, the Anchorage Daily News reports. The US district court judge hearing Miller's federal challenge—who forced Miller to first take the issue to state court (where he lost ) before pursuing it in federal court—has said he will likely lift his order to stay the certification, meaning Murkowski will assume office Jan. 5. Miller says he is continuing with his lawsuit "for the sake of the integrity of the election." More»
