(Newser) – Careful what you’re feeding Fido, folks. A major pet product company—Hartz Mountain Corp.—is recalling 75,000 bags of its Hartz Naturals Real Beef dog treats, after a random FDA test discovered salmonella in at least one bag. So far there haven’t been any reports of animals falling ill, but Hartz is urging anyone who bought the tainted treats to throw them away. The suspect bags will bear the product code BZ0969101E, CNN reports.

(snark alert) Oh yeah throw the rotten treats away, that way Hartz gets to benefit from what consumers spent on this tainted product...without having a way to refund customers for what they spent.

Unless they're are having other immune system problems, dogs are largely unaffected by salmonella. My dog has been eating raw meat for all her meals for four years and has never had a problem. Wild dogs and wolves don't cook their food, after all.
