(NEWSER) - One of the stronger of the thousands of earthquakes and aftershocks to hit Christchurch since last year's devastating 6.1 quake struck the New Zealand city today. No reports of serious injuries or damage were received after the 4.7 quake, reports the New Zealand Herald . Authorities closed the city's downtown area—now known as the "red zone"—as a precaution. NZ on Boston U Crash: We Tell Students Not to Drive

Officials will step up warnings for international students

(NEWSER) - Three Boston University students studying in New Zealand were killed on Saturday when the minivan they were driving in careened off a road and crashed. Officials of the New Zealand university hosting the Boston visitors said they strongly discourage such students from driving because of their unfamiliarity with driving along the left side of the road; the school intends to strengthen those warnings in the future. "It's plainly riskier than other forms of travel," said the director of Auckland University's international office. "The students, of course, are anxious to get out and see as much of the country as possible." More»

3 Boston U Students Die in New Zealand Crash

Another is critically injured

(AP) - Three Boston University students who were studying in New Zealand were killed today when their minivan crashed. At least five other students from the university were injured in the accident, including one who was in critical condition. The students were traveling in a minivan about 7:30am near the North Island vacation town of Taupo when the vehicle drifted to the side of the road and then rolled when the driver tried to correct course, police said. Fake Terror Tweet Forces Diet Guru Off Cruise

Parody Jack Kruse account threatened bioterror attack

(NEWSER) - Controversial neurosurgeon-turned-diet guru Jack Kruse was kicked off a cruise ship, where he was supposed to give a lecture, after a bogus tweet warned of a bioterror attack. Kruse was questioned after authorities were tipped off to a tweet reading: "Security confiscated dynamite. Talk won't be as explosive as one at PaleoFx. Still have vial of Legionnaires for epic biohack." The tweet was posted on the "shitkrusesays" Twitter account, which parodies Kruse and his teachings, the Tennessean reports.
