He orders Air Force to take steps to protect fliers

(NEWSER) - Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has ordered the Air Force to take extra steps to protect F-22 pilots while officials investigate reports of dizziness and fainting spells in the cockpit. Panetta has ordered the service to keep all F-22 flights close enough to landing strips so that pilots will be able to land if they begin experiencing hypoxia-like symptoms, and to speed up the installation of an automatic backup oxygen system in the fighter jet. Alaskans Find Prized Soccer Ball Lost in Tsunami

Teen who lost home amazed ball made it across ocean

(NEWSER) - A 16-year-old Japanese boy is getting one of his most prized possessions back more than a year after the tsunami destroyed his home and much of his hometown. Misaki Murakami's soccer ball, inscribed with his name and messages of support from his classmates, washed up on an Alaskan island where it was found by a beachcomber whose Japanese wife translated the writing, the AP reports.
