Users nostalgic as former Facebook rival plans to wipe profile

(NEWSER) - Social networking also-ran Friendster has announced it plans to delete all user profile content as of May 31, erasing blog entries, friend endorsements, and photos from as far back as 2003. The news has touched off a wave of nostalgia among former users, the New York Times finds. Blogs report conflicting information on 'Google Circles'

(NEWSER) - Google will soon launch a social network, blogs are saying, and it may be called Google Circles. The tech blog The Next Web first reported the news Friday, noting that the product would launch at Google’s I/O conference in May; ReadWriteWeb followed with an assertion that the new service would be announced at South By Southwest. Google knocked down the latter claim, but refused to “comment on rumor and speculation” about the service itself, the Telegraph reports. More»

Facebook Adds News Feed Filters

Users gain control over types of updates to view

(NEWSER) - Facebook is rolling out a revamped News Feed, featuring a drop-down menu that lets users isolate what kind of news they want to get. They can, for example, choose to see only friends’ latest photos, only status updates, or only updates from Pages (rather than friends). They can also opt to see only news from members one of their Groups. Whether this is a test or a permanent feature is still unclear, Mashable notes. More»
