Officials looking at new route, which should push things back a year

(NEWSER) - Looks like the controversial Keystone XL pipeline won't be an election issue after all. The White House is going to push back the decision on whether to allow it to be built for another year, reports the Washington Post . Jim Talent runs lobbying firm paid by Big Coal

(NEWSER) - An energy advisor who helped craft Mitt Romney's pro-coal policy also runs a lobbying firm that's paid by, you guessed it, a big coal company. Ex-Missouri senator Jim Talent co-chairs the lobbying firm Mercury Public Affairs, which receives $125,000 a year from Peabody Energy to promote its coal interests, Salon reports. Mercury, Talent, and Romney's reps have all have no comment on the connection. More»

California Democrat stands against ozone decision

(NEWSER) - Count Barbara Boxer among those steamed about President Obama’s decision to ditch the EPA’s proposal for stricter smog standards . The California senator talked to reporters yesterday, and while Politico notes that she was more measured than many environmentalists , she did call for a lawsuit against the president. “I’m not making any charge” that the move was politically motivated, she said. “I’m just saying I disagree, strongly … and I hope they’ll be sued in court and I hope the court can stand by the Clean Air Act.” More»
