(NEWSER) - At least three lucky (and still anonymous) souls have winning tickets in the $640 million Mega Millions jackpot, reports AP . The winners were sold in Illinois (in Red Bud, near St. Louis); Maryland (in the Baltimore suburb of Milford Mill, reports the Baltimore Sun ); and somewhere in Kansas. California struck out but had lots of close calls, notes the Los Angeles Times : Twenty-nine tickets there matched five of the six numbers, and each should be worth in the "high hundreds of thousands." Candace Bergen Had Secret Stroke

Her memory's 'still not the same,' says 'Murphy Brown'

(NEWSER) - Murphy Brown and Boston Legal star Candace Bergen very quietly had a stroke six years ago. She returned to work just two weeks later, but her memory is still "not quite the same," the actress reveals in a surprising New York Magazine interview. Bergen, now 65, is reluctant to discuss the stroke because "I just don't want it to be a liability," explains the actress, who's now making her Broadway debut in Gore Vidal's the Best Man. She admits she was nervous about doing theater. “My concern with theater was no retakes,” Bergen says. “I had no confidence in my memory." Now she's "so grateful" she decided to take on the challenge. Bergen is just the latest major actress to reveal secret health problems. Gun Victim Gets Full Face Transplant

Surgery called most complex yet

(NEWSER) - A Virginia man who suffered a gun accident has undergone a face transplant at the University of Maryland, and doctors say it's the most extensive such operation yet. The surgery required input from 300 health workers and took more than a day to complete, the Baltimore Sun reports. Doctors used donor skin, teeth, jaw, tongue, and other tissue to reconstruct Richard Lee Norris's face after the patient lost his nose, chin, lips, and teeth in 1997. More»
