Sixty-nine year-old Tom Finley says he last saw his canine "best friend" outside a McDonald's, and believes someone took her in the hope of giving the dog better care. Hacker group temporarily takes down police, NATO websites

(NEWSER) - What began as an orderly march by thousands of activists protesting the NATO summit yesterday turned bloody as clashed erupted with Chicago police. At least seven people required hospital treatment, and dozens were arrested, reports the Chicago Tribune. The confrontation lasted close to two hours, and left several protesters bloodied, said the newspaper. In other action, a number of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans threw their NATO valor medals over a fence set up by the Secret Service around the summit site at the McCormick convention center, reports ABC News . A hacking group affiliated with Anonymous also reportedly took down NATO and Chicago police websites temporarily. War in Afghanistan, climate change top list of grievances

(AP) - Thousands of demonstrators upset with the war in Afghanistan, climate change, and the erosion of union rights marched through downtown Chicago today, taking their discontent on a wide range of world issues to leaders assembled for a NATO summit. The protest, one of the city's largest in years, was to end at the lakeside convention center hosting the two-day meeting, which is focused on the war in Afghanistan, European missile defense, and other international security matters. Sebastian Senakiewicz was arrested Thursday, faces hearing today

(NEWSER) - Two more men have been arrested in Chicago on terrorism-related charges, reports the Chicago Tribune . Sebastian Senakiewicz, a 24-year-old Chicago resident, was charged yesterday with a single count of terrorism/false threat after being arrested on Thursday, for "planning/conspiring in the building of explosives, including molotov cocktails which were to be used/detonated during the NATO summit," according to a police report. Mark Neiweem, 28, also of Chicago, is charged with attempted possession of explosive devices after he allegedly provided an ingredient list for an explosive device. Both men have minor criminal records. More»
