Travel strangled, with accidents killing at least 12

(AP) - A powerful storm packing heavy snow, sleet, and rain lumbered across the nation's midsection today, glazing roads and disrupting air travel but promising a white Christmas for some. The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings for parts of Oklahoma, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Texas. It cautioned that travel would be extremely dangerous in those areas through the weekend; slippery roads have already been blamed for at least 12 deaths. More»

(AP) - A ferocious storm packing freezing rain, heavy snow, and furious wind gusts paralyzed most of the East Coast, sending dozens of cars careening into ditches, grounding hundreds of flights, and closing school for millions of kids, the AP reports. (NEWSER) - A foot of snow hit Kansas this morning as thousands huddled in shelters there, unable to return home after power outages, the AP reports. Oklahoma, which still has 181,000 homes and businesses blacked out, caught a break this morning when heavy snow warnings were canceled. In the Midwest, more than 400,000 people remain without power

(NEWSER) - The deadly storm that shut down much of the Midwest is now giving the Northeast its first major taste of winter, the AP reports. Heavy snow snarled roads and airports in Boston, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Forecasters say some areas could get up to a foot of snow by morning, while others will deal with the mess of freezing rain and sleet. Meanwhile, a bigger storm is brewing and could strike by Sunday.
