Though the service hasn't officially launched, visitors to its site are encouraged to "register early to get in line" due to overwhelming demand. But some doubt it ever will see the light of day; AOL notes that Facebook's Terms of Service agreement bars computer-controlled accounts, which may spell doom for the company. (NEWSER) - Facebook today unveiled "Messages," which has been hyped as its " Gmail killer —but Mark Zuckerberg instantly threw his audience a curve ball. “It’s not email,” the CEO announced, according to the Guardian . “This is not an email-killer. This is a messaging system that includes email as one part of it.” So yes, Facebook is about to start handing out @Facebook.com email addresses, but the new system will look more like chat than traditional email, Zuckberg explained, and will integrate text messaging and instant messaging as well.
