Hartsfield-Jackson beats Chicago's O'Hare to retain title for 3rd year

(Newser) – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport had the most flights of any in the US—and, by extension, the world— for the third consecutive year, the AP reports. (NEWSER) - It must have been an awful feeling for the two mechanics on an otherwise empty Delta jet this morning who were running engine checks. The Boeing 737 rolled off the taxiway at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport and over an embankment, sustaining "significant damage," reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution . (NEWSER) - Ludacris is launching his own restaurant in Atlanta's busy Hartsfield-Jackson airport. "Chicken and beer coming soon!" the 34-year-old hip-hop star tweeted. Ludacris' eatery will be yet another addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, which include Cognac and headphones. He also is expected to have a new album out this year called Ludaversal, reports Rolling Stone . Orbitz issues its annual ranking

(NEWSER) - The City of Angels is expected to have quite the hellish airport this Thanksgiving holiday. According to an annual ranking by Orbitz, LAX will top Chicago's O'Hare International Airport as the nation's busiest this holiday weekend, from Nov. 23 to Nov. 27. Filling out the top five (in order) are Orlando International, San Francisco International, and Boston's Logan International airports. Orbitz calculates its ranking by adding up tickets sales for the country's 50 major airports, the Los Angeles Times reports. More»

Delta Jet Catches Fire on Landing

Brakes overheated at Atlanta airport

(NEWSER) - Scary landing for some Delta Air Lines passengers in Atlanta today: They had to take the emergency slides after the plane caught fire, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution . All of the 48 passengers and crew got off safely; the AP notes that four people suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. The plane's brakes apparently overheated after it touched down at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport from Pittsburgh. As Fewer Fly, Airline Delays Nosedive

Major airports see traffic fall 9%

(NEWSER) - With fewer travelers taking to the skies, airline delays have dropped significantly compared to recent years, USA Today reports. Delays topping two hours fell by more than a quarter this year from 2008 and 2007 levels, while traffic at big hubs has dropped 9% compared to last year. Traffic at airports hardest hit by airline restructuring, like Pittsburgh and St. Louis, has sunk some two-thirds. More»
