'National Geographic' captures entirety of giant liner at bottom of sea

(NEWSER) - The view of the entire sunken Titanic is revealed for the first time in newly published photos. The pictures, unveiled in the April edition of National Geographic 100 years after the great ship sank, show the mammoth vessel still and broken, but recognizable with several portholes, decks, and railings intact. The photos are the result of a several-million-dollar expedition by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, which used state-of-the-art robotic vehicles to sweep the area surrounding the wreckage, snapping more than 100,000 high-resolution photos. (NEWSER) - After a thorough investigation of corruption in state politics, the Center for Public Integrity has made up report cards for each state—and the results are depressing. Not one state managed anything in the A-range, while eight—Michigan, the Dakotas, South Carolina, Maine, Virginia, Georgia, and Wyoming—scored Fs. Coming in on top with a B-plus: New Jersey. Perhaps that's surprising, given the state's political reputation. But that reputation has prompted some tough anti-corruption laws; ditto for other possibly counterintuitive states in the top 15, like Illinois and Louisiana. More»

'This is a long-term operation,' says stick-with-it candidate

(NEWSER) - Ron Paul was last night's big loser, coming away from Super Tuesday without a single primary win. His best showing was a second place to Rick Santorum's win in North Dakota, one of the three states along with Idaho and Alaska that Paul targeted. The race was like others before it, Politico notes: An enthusiastic campaign with big crowds and sunny predictions dimmed at the end. The young, enthusiastic crowds might not be so enthusiastic about actually turning up to vote. Paul scooped up 40% of the vote in Virginia, where he faced off against Romney in the two-man race there, but is likely to only garner three of that state's 46 delegates. More»

Romney wins Ohio, 5 others; Santorum wins 3; Newt 1

(NEWSER) - Mitt Romney took the biggest Super Tuesday prize of all, Ohio, by a razor thin margin. The state was called for Romney only after 99.4% of precincts reported, giving him 38% to Rick Santorum's 37%. Earlier, Newt Gingrich got a crucial home-state win in Georgia, while Santorum grabbed needed victories in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and North Dakota. Romney cruised to expected wins in Massachusetts, Vermont, Idaho, and Virginia, where Ron Paul was the only other candidate on the ballot, reports AP . (NEWSER) - It's here at last: Super Tuesday, the day 10 states cast their ballots in the 2012 primary. Here's what's at stake for each of the candidates today:

• Mitt Romney—Expected to win: Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia. Really wants to win: Ohio and Tennessee. Winning both would give him both of America's top swing states (Ohio and Florida), and a win in the South, and make him, in the Wall Street Journal 's words, "the presumptive leader." Keeping an eye on: Romney's camp says it's shifting into delegate-acquisition mode, so though it won't win Georgia and it's not expecting Tennessee, it's invested in the Atlanta and Knoxville regions.
