(NEWSER) - Yet more bad news for the Oprah Winfrey Network: SNL Kagan estimates that its losses could hit $142.9 million this year. Low ratings and bad press could make trouble with advertisers as well as cable operators, says an analyst at the research and investment firm. "We're expecting a big write-down in the first quarter and we would not be surprised to see Discovery ask Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions to finance some of the network's losses going forward," he tells Broadcasting & Cable . (NEWSER) - This week on Oprah: dealing with unemployment. The Oprah Winfrey Network is laying off a fifth of its workers as part of a major restructuring at the cable network, which has struggled for ratings since its launch last year, AP reports. "It is difficult to make tough business decisions that affect people's lives, but the economics of a start-up cable network just don't work with the cost structure that was in place," Winfrey said in a statement. (NEWSER) - Oprah Winfrey herself made the call to cancel Rosie O'Donnell's talk show on OWN , Ramin Setoodeh reveals in an extensive Daily Beast piece that goes behind the scenes. Setoodeh talked to staffers on the show and discovered problems on both sides: O'Donnell was a less-than-easygoing boss ("It was such a fucking hellhole," says one former staffer), but the network also didn't make it easy for her. (NEWSER) - The struggles continue at Oprah Winfrey's cable channel OWN, as Rosie O'Donnell's talk show was canceled yesterday after just one season, reports E! Online .
