(NEWSER) - A thrilling birdie-battle on the back nine yesterday between crowd-favorite Phil Mickelson and little-known Swede Peter Hanson has the Masters posed for an epic final-day showdown, reports ESPN . Mickelson hit a 20-foot putt for an eagle on the 12th and an amazing shot on the 15th that had the crowds roaring. (NEWSER) - Phil Mickelson's mother has breast cancer and will undergo surgery this week at the same hospital that's treating her daughter-in-law for the disease. Amy Mickelson, the star golfer's wife, was diagnosed in May. Phil Mickelson's sister, Tina, tells the San Diego Union-Tribune she made the diagnosis public in hopes that mom Mary Mickelson would receive the same kind of support Amy Mickelson has experienced. (NEWSER) - A bank that got $1.6 billion in federal bailout cash lived it up last week in Los Angeles with luxe parties and concerts as it sponsored a PGA golf tournament, TMZ reports. Northern Trust flew hundreds of workers and clients to LA to stay in swanky hotels, eat classy meals, and groove to the likes of Sheryl Crow and Chicago—in addition to paying millions in sponsorship.
