After 6 years in the rebel guerrillas' custody, Betancourt reportedly began a hunger strike Feb. 23. Clara Rojas' baby, Emmanuel, fathered by one of the rebels, was taken from her when he was just eight months old, suffering from a broken arm and a parasitic disease.
