(AP) - Mexico has enacted a controversial law decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and other drugs while encouraging free government treatment for drug dependency. The law sets out maximum "personal use" amounts for drugs, also including LSD and methamphetamine. Accusation is latest of many legal troubles for track star Montgomery

(NEWSER) - Olympic gold-medalist Tim Montgomery has been indicted for dealing heroin, the Virginian-Pilot reports. “They said I sold 100 grams of heroin to an informant,” Montgomery told the paper in a jailhouse interview, noting that he has “no idea” why he’s been charged. 6.2 tons seized at border last year

(NEWSER) - Once the province of domestic drug makers, much of the methamphetamine coursing through the US now originates in Mexico, the Wall Street Journal reports. Through the first half of the year, Mexico’s military found 103 meth labs, 25% more than last year, when a record 6.2 tons of the synthetic drug were seized at the US border. Already this year, authorities have seized nearly that much. Though the number of US meth labs is rising, 96% of those busted in 2010 couldn't produce more than two ounces of the drug—just enough for personal use, leaving mass production to Mexico. More»

Farrah Fawcett's son jailed without bail

(AP) - The son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal is in jail in Southern California after police stopped him for a traffic violation and allegedly found heroin in his car. Redmond O'Neal was pulled over about 8:30am yesterday after an officer saw him fail to stop for a red light, Santa Monica police said. A search of his car uncovered the drug. O'Neal, who is on probation in a previous drug case, was jailed without bail. More»
