(Newser) – Rupert Murdoch may have muscled an Aussie mag into dropping a profile of his third wife, Slate's Jack Shafer speculates. Good Weekend suddenly jettisoned a 10,000-word piece on 38-year-old Wendi Deng last month, after paying writer Eric Ellis $25 grand for the heavily-researched story. Read full story »

(NEWSER) - Scotland Yard, smarting from a report that it failed to inform victims of a British tabloid's rampant phone hacking, today opened and quickly closed an investigation into the potentially explosive matter, reports the New York Times. Cops reportedly had evidence of thousands of incidences of illegal activity by private investigators working for at least 31 journalists from News Corp.'s News of the World and Sun—but prosecutors brought no charges, and a Guardian exposé contained nothing new, investigators said. Rupert Murdoch's channel today admitted to twice authorizing its reporters to hack into computers, a potentially embarrassing revelation that could further dent the media tycoon's hope of acquiring full control over satellite broadcaster BSkyB. Her account is, shockingly, a fake (though Twitter marked it as verified.) Let the shock wear off, then read the latest from @wendi_deng , posted about an hour ago: "Hello Twitter.
