Vocal chords damaged after working in noisy classroom

(NEWSER) - A British teacher ruined her voice while struggling to make herself heard in a noisy classroom—and has been awarded $225,000 in compensation. Joyce Walters developed nodules on her vocal chords and had to give up teaching after working in an adult education center that placed her in a classroom next to a schoolchildren-filled playground, forcing her to raise her voice to be heard, she says. Brown Announces July Withdrawal in Baghdad

Brown says troops home by July in surprise Baghdad visit

(NEWSER) - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown made a surprise visit to Baghdad today and announced that all but a handful of British troops will leave Iraq by July 2009. About 4,000 British service members remain in Iraq, mostly around Basra, though at the height of the war 100,000 were deployed. US contractors will be paid up to $300 million over the next 3 years to produce pro-American news and entertainment for the Iraqi media, the Washington Post reports.
