(NEWSER) - Alec Baldwin squashed his videotaped appearance on last night's Emmy Awards after Fox axed his joke about the phone hacking scandal at newspapers owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., Fox's parent company. Baldwin demanded his entire videotaped bit, which was to air at the beginning of the show, be removed once the joke was censored. NY Post Staff Told To Keep Documents in Hacking Probe

News Corp expects inquiry to grow

(AP) - New York Post staffers have been told to preserve any documents that may relate to phone hacking or payoffs to officials, as News Corp. prepares for a probe into its UK operations to reach across the Atlantic. Post editor Col Allan sent a memo to staff yesterday asking them to comply with the request from company lawyers. Allan wrote that as the scandal at News of the World tabloid unfolded in the UK, "we knew that as a News Corporation tabloid, we would be looked at more closely." More»

(NEWSER) - A former Fox News exec who helped launch the channel in 1996 claims the Rupert Murdoch-owned network has a "counter intelligence and black ops office" that may have engaged in a little phone hacking of its own. The New York "brain room," which most thought was just a research department, existed to gather information on those perceived as enemies of the channel, says Dan Cooper. (NEWSER) - Roger Ailes has made huge profits by selling fear, but he has a few fears of his own, Rolling Stone finds in a detailed—and deeply unflattering—profile of the Fox News chairman. Ailes, whose resumé includes repackaging Richard Nixon for TV in 1968 and helping derail health care reform on behalf of Big Tobacco in 1993, insisted on having bombproof glass installed in his office after Rupert Murdoch hired him to create the Fox News Channel.
