Pirates rally to snap Atlanta's six-game win streak

(NEWSER) - Freddy Sanchez singled home Brian Bixler with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Pittsburgh Pirates a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves tonight. Sanchez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and is 9-for-17 in four games since being moved to the top of the Pirates' lineup. John Grabow (2-1) struck out one in a scoreless ninth to earn the win. More»

(NEWSER) - Chipper Jones drove in five runs and the Atlanta Braves scored seven runs in the second inning and beat the Cincinnati Reds 14-7 today to complete a three-game sweep. Jones hit his ninth homer - a three-run shot off Bronson Arroyo in the seven-run second inning. Kelly Johnson was 4-for-6 and Mark Kotsay was 3-for-4 with a homer. More»

Reyes gets easy first win while subbing for Smoltz

(NEWSER) - The Atlanta Braves made it easy for Jo-Jo Reyes to win his 2008 debut. Reyes gave up one run in 5 1/3 innings, and Atlanta broke open a close game with a six-run seventh to beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-1 last night. Reyes (1-0), recalled from Triple-A Richmond for the start in place of the injured John Smoltz, gave up four hits and one run in 5 1/3 innings. More»

Washington wins home-opener over Atlanta

(NEWSER) - The Washington Nationals opened the 2008 season and their new ballpark with a win tonight over the Atlanta Braves, 3-2. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman called it a night with a walk-off home run over the center field wall. Jon Rauch, who surrended the tying run in the top of hte 9th, was the winning pitcher for the Nats; Zimmerman victim Peter Moylan took the loss for the Braves. More»
