(Newser) – Cristian Guzman tied a career high with six RBIs, including a tiebreaking three-run double in the sixth inning, and the Washington Nationals held off the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-8 today. (NEWSER) - Wes Helms singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth and the Florida Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 6-5 last night. Helms' one-out grounder up the middle off reliever Saul Rivera (1-1) scored Dan Uggla from second, ending the Marlins' two-game losing streak. Mike Jacobs and Jorge Cantu had three hits each for Florida. Josh Willingham had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice. More»

Slugger beats Pirates with homer for second straight day

(NEWSER) - Mike Jacobs hit his first career grand slam to lead the Florida Marlins to a 7-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates last night. Jacobs' 417-foot blast to right-center off starter Paul Maholm gave the Marlins a 5-1 lead in the fifth. Jacobs' walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth beat the Pirates on Friday.
