(NEWSER) - Investigators will grill convicted DC serial killer Lee Boyd Malvo again since he revealed in a TV interview that two other men initially planned to be part of the sniper shootings that terrorized the capital in 2002. Malvo and John Allen Muhammad were convicted of picking off victims with high-powered rifles, killing 10. "There were two other people who were supposed to be involved—but in the end, they ended up backing out," said Malvo, who was 17 when he was busted. "There was supposed to be three to four snipers with silenced rifles, and in this way you could do a lot more damage along the entire Eastern Seaboard." More»

Va. Gov Denies Clemency to DC Sniper

Muhammad will be executed tonight in Virginia

(NEWSER) - Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has denied clemency for Beltway sniper John Allen Muhammad, clearing the way for Muhammad's execution at 9pm tonight. Muhammad, whose appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court yesterday, will die by lethal injection, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch . His 2002 shooting spree with younger accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo left 10 people dead. Malvo is serving a life sentence. More»

Supreme Court Won't Spare Beltway Sniper

Execution set for tomorrow as request for more time fails

(NEWSER) - The Supreme Court has rejected an emergency appeal from John Allen Muhammad, also known as the Beltway sniper, clearing the way for his execution tomorrow. Muhammad’s lawyers said he needed more time to prepare his appeals. Although justices Stevens, Ginsburg, and Sotomayor questioned Virginia law for not affording convicts a year to file appeals, they found no reason to make an exception for Muhammad, the Los Angeles Times reports. (NEWSER) - A murderer awaiting execution in North Carolina wrote a letter to his hometown newspaper ridiculing the justice system and describing his life in prison as one of "leisure." 50-year-old Danny Robbie Hembree Jr. is on death row for killing teenager Heather Catterton in 2009, reports ABC News . Hembree sent the letter to the Gaston Gazette ; in it he asks, "Is the public aware that I am a gentleman of leisure, watching color TV in the A.C., reading, taking naps at will, eating three well balanced hot meals a day?" Lee Boyd Malvo writes letter, is 'relieved' man is alive and well

(NEWSER) - Lee Boyd Malvo, the younger of the DC snipers, apologized to his first victim by letter this week. Malvo shot the Louisiana man in 2002 in what police figure was a test of loyalty to the older sniper, John Allen Muhammad. The pair slashed John Gaeta's tires in a mall parking lot, then Malvo shot him point-blank in the neck as he was trying to put on the spare. Though Gaeta wasn't seriously wounded, he played dead while the two grabbed his wallet. More»
