(NEWSER) - Thanks to a rule change agreed to today, Prince William’s firstborn can ascend the throne, even if that firstborn happens to be a girl. The change to the royal succession rules was approved by leaders of the 16 countries for whom the British monarch is head of state; they also decided to scrap the rule prohibiting a monarch or heir from marrying a Catholic. Prince William, Kate Middleton not warmly received by Amir Khadir

(NEWSER) - Suffice it to say Quebec legislator Amir Khadir is not happy about the upcoming royal visit. Khadir, leader of a small left-wing party, said yesterday that taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for Prince William’s planned summer visit with his new wife, the Duchess of Cambridge. Khadir, a self-described separatist, compared the British royal family to "parasites" in a tabloid interview, the AP reports, and the Quebec government has since demanded an apology. More»

Obamas Meet William, Kate

US president, first lady welcomed at Buckingham Palace

(NEWSER) - The Obamas were grandly received at Buckingham Palace today, greeted by a 41-gun salute as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip welcomed them to London. Earlier in the day, the president and first lady had a chance to meet with Prince Charles and wife Camilla, as well as newlyweds Prince William and wife Kate—and the Obamas are even staying in the same suite Wills and Kate used on their wedding night. According to the AP , royal watchers say the queen took a liking to the Obamas after their 2009 visit, during which the first lady famously touched the royal back .
